Many of us share a love for Old World tradition and the classic elegance to be found in a fine piece of English or Continental antique furniture, but few of us can afford the four or five figure price tag that comes with the genuine article. Fortunately there is a solution. Antique reproduction furniture can provide the same look and feel at a fraction of the cost. In fact, you can enjoy a high quality reproduction of an antique item that could otherwise only be found in a museum or royal palace for little more than you would pay for the typical contemporary mass-produced item of the High Street.
From the traditional old English designs of the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian Eras to the unparalleled opulence of the court of Louis XV and the French Empire, the timeless designs of the Old World offer inspiration to a wide array of tastes.
Apart from furniture, high quality antique reproductions can bring a variety of practical as well as decorative treasures to life. With fine porcelain, glassware, silver and silver plate wares, bronzes, clocks, and a wide range of other unique antique decorative pieces often carrying price tags as high as those on furniture, reproductions of these kinds of items can as well bring enjoyment and splendour without breaking the bank.
Find an established specialist who deals in both antique as well as reproduction items that understands the difference between the two and represents them accurately. Use of the terms “style” or “in the manner of” generally mean that the item is a contemporary or vintage reproduction. The terms “antique,” “period,” and “circa” will usually mean that the piece is original to the historical era mentioned – and much more expensive!

What are the local things we should not miss.Interested in “off the beaten path” villages and historic sites. I’ve been to England several times as a teenager but haven’t been since 1972. I know this is a long list but I’m trying to be complete. Thanks in advance. Best answer gets 10 points
I can’t give you a route, but just checking you realise that this journey say, Newcastle to Cardiff could be done in a day? So if you want to take 16 days over it, basically you are talking about lots of short trips. Which might make it cheaper to buy individual tickets for each trip, rather than a train pass.
If you have some under 16’s with you, a Family Railcard will be a must http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/railcards.html
Out-of-the-way villages will not be possible by train….a lot of the smaller train stations were closed in the Beeching cuts of the late 60’s.
Have a look at www.nationalrail.co.uk for route maps of the rail network and ticket prices.
Some ideas:
York for history
Bath for tea rooms, history
Oxford for punting, history, bookstores

After years of competitive extravagance at birthday time, Lawrence and Nancy Goldstone decided to limit themselves to $20 each, which is how they came to be in possession of a $10 definitive translation of War and Peace, complete with maps of the major battles and fold-out color illustrations. It is also how they eventually came to be the owners of a $650 edition of Dickens’s Martin Chuzzlew…
The broader Regency period 1795-1820 stands alone as an incredible moment in fashion history unlike anything that went before or after. It was the most naked period since Ancient Greece and before the 1960s, and for the first time England became a fashion influence, especially for menswear, and became the toast of Paris. With the ancient regime deposed, court dress became secondary and the season …
